    Description

Tulipa ‘Apricot Parrot’ has apricot-pink flowers flushed with green and yellow stripes.

Parrot Tulips are well-known for its unusual feather-like flowers, with spots and chiseled petals. The majority of the cultivars originate as mutations from Single Late and Triumph tulips. Depending on the cultivars, the petals are more or less incised. Most flowers have a green spot in the middle base of the petals. Until the flowers begin coloring, they are almost completely bright green. Parrot tulips have very big blooms on supple stems, late blooming. They are particularly sensitive to poor weather-conditions, therefore they should be planted in protected areas. The flowers open almost horizontally in the sun, a star shaped black heart appears from which emerges the bright yellow pistil.

Tulips are hardy and like other bulbs, easy to grow in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. The blooms last longer in partial shade locations. The tulips can be planted in Fall when the soil temperature falls below 55F to make sure they root well. The best planting time is when the night time temperatures are between 40-50F. For best results, tulips need approximate 12 weeks of temperatures below 50F.
