    Description

Galanthus ‘Nivalis’ has nodding white flowers with green tips.

Galanthus (Snowdrop) species are one of the most popular and earliest Spring flowering plants. This genus consist of dozen species that are native to Asia and Europe. Snowdrops are popular in cold-climate areas. When planted in quantity, flowers resemble drops of snow sitting on top of their low foliage. Flowers  can be covered by snowfall, when the snow melts they reappear unharmed. All of them have white flowers but foliage and flowering periods are different. Great for borders, rock gardens, under trees and shrubs and in lawns. Galanthus naturalizes well. Snowdrops are quite different from their close relative Leucojum which has stems over 2 foot tall with several flowers at top.

Galanthus are hardy and like other bulbs, easy to grow in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. The blooms last longer in partial shade locations. The Galanthus can be planted in Fall when the soil temperature falls below 55F to make sure they root well. The best planting time is when the night time temperatures are between 40-50F. For best results, Galanthus need approximate 12 weeks of temperatures below 50F.
