    Description

    Eranthis Hyemalis has buttercup-yellow flowers.

Eranthis (Winter Aconite) bulbs are very small and look like pieces of bark. Prior to planting, soak them in luke-warm water for 24 hours. This facilitates the development of the plant. One of the earliest Spring flowering bulbs to bloom, they often appear in the snow. The flowers are born on very short stems, flowers will open in full sun and close again at night or when there is no sunshine. The green leaves form a little collar around the flower. When the flowers fade they form a green carpet which disappears at the end of Spring.

Eranthis are hardy and like other bulbs, easy to grow in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. The blooms last longer in partial shade locations. The Eranthis can be planted in Fall when the soil temperature falls below 55F to make sure they root well. The best planting time is when the night time temperatures are between 40-50F. For best results, Eranthis need approximate 12 weeks of temperatures below 50F.
