    Colchicum ‘Album’ has Fall flowering pure white flowers. 

    Colchicum also known as Autumn Crocus since the flowering time is in the Fall. The only relationship to true Crocus is the flower shape and the low growth habit. In late Spring leaves start to grow gradually turns yellow and dies down by summer as the plant goes dormant, flowers start to bloom in the Fall. Up to 20 flowers develop from one corm. The most remarkable aspect of Colchicum is their ability to bloom without soil or water. Therefore you could place the bulbs indoor and the plants bloom with no care, avoid placing bulbs in direct sunlight or they will burn. Colchicum do also well in the outdoor garden.

    Colchicum are hardy and like other bulbs, easy to grow in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. The blooms last longer in partial shade locations. The Colchicum can be planted in Fall when the soil temperature falls below 55F to make sure they root well. The best planting time is when the night time temperatures are between 40-50F. For best results, Colchicum need approximate 12 weeks of temperatures below 50F.
